Body Shape Guide
Not sure which silhouette flatters you most? Identify your body shape below and discover the dress styles that will make you feel your most confident and beautiful.
Hourglass
Defined by: Bust and hips roughly equal in width, with a noticeably narrow waist.
Best silhouettes:
- Fitted mermaid & trumpet gowns
- Bodycon or sheath dresses
- Wrap-style or ruched dresses
- Ball gowns with a cinched waist
Tip: Embrace your curves — styles that follow your natural shape are your best friend.
Pear / Triangle
Defined by: Hips wider than bust, with a defined waist.
Best silhouettes:
- A-line gowns that skim over hips
- Ball gowns with a full skirt
- Off-shoulder or embellished necklines to balance proportions
- Empire waist styles
Tip: Draw attention upward with statement tops, bold necklines, or embellished bodices.
Apple / Round
Defined by: Fuller midsection, bust often larger than hips, less defined waist.
Best silhouettes:
- Empire waist or high-waist styles
- A-line dresses with flowing skirts
- V-necklines to elongate the torso
- Ruched or draped fabric at the waist
Tip: Look for styles that create a defined waistline just below the bust for a flattering silhouette.
Rectangle / Straight
Defined by: Bust, waist, and hips are similar in width with minimal curves.
Best silhouettes:
- Ball gowns and princess-line dresses to add volume
- Peplum or ruffled styles to create curves
- Belted or corset-style bodices
- Layered or tiered skirts
Tip: Use texture, ruffles, and embellishments to create the illusion of curves.
Inverted Triangle
Defined by: Shoulders and bust wider than hips.
Best silhouettes:
- A-line and flared skirts to add volume at the hips
- Ball gowns with full skirts
- V-neck or sweetheart necklines to soften the shoulder line
- Avoid heavy embellishments on the shoulders
Tip: Choose styles that add fullness below the waist to balance broader shoulders.
Petite
Defined by: Shorter overall frame (typically under 5'4" / 163 cm).
Best silhouettes:
- High-waist or empire styles to elongate legs
- Shorter hemlines or high-low styles
- Vertical details, thin straps, and minimal bulk
- Column or sheath gowns for a sleek line
Tip: Avoid overly voluminous skirts that can overwhelm a petite frame — opt for clean, elongating lines.
Measurement Guide
Please check bust, waist and hips when choosing a size. To learn how to measure, follow the instructions below.
Bust
This is the measurement around the fullest part of your bust (body circumference at the level of the breasts). Wrap the tape around the fullest part and keep it level across the back.
- This isn't your bra size.
- Keep your arms relaxed by your sides.
- Wear the bra you plan to wear with the dress when measuring.
Waist
Measure your natural waistline (the smallest part of your waist). Keep the tape parallel to the floor. Bend to one side to find the natural crease—this is your waist.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your buttocks, usually 7–9 inches (18–23 cm) below your natural waistline. Keep the tape parallel to the floor all the way around.
Hollow to Floor
Hollow to Floor (barefoot): hold the tape at your center collarbone (hollow) and have a friend pull it straight down to the floor.
Back Shoulder Width
Measure from the edge of the left shoulder across the prominent neck bone at the back of the neck to the edge of the right shoulder. Place the tape on top of the shoulders.
Sleeve Length
Measure from your shoulder seam to where you'd like the sleeve to end, with your arm relaxed by your side.
- Tip: measure with your arm slightly bent.
Armscye (Armhole)
Wrap the tape over the top of your shoulder and around under your armpit to measure the armhole.
Arm Circumference
Measure around the fullest part of your upper arm.
- Tip: keep the muscle relaxed.
